Writing with AI is AI Slop? Not so fast!
Lately, there’s been a lot of noise about AI writing being careless, bland, or, as some call it, “AI slop.”
I understand the frustration on both sides. AI skeptics dismiss the technology entirely because they see lazy, uninspired results.
Meanwhile, some users assume the machine should do all the heavy lifting.
Neither approach gets it right.
Here’s the hard truth: sloppy AI output isn’t the fault of the technology. It’s a reflection of sloppy usage. Have you ever seen pencil written slop on paper? I have and it was generated by a good old fashioned human brain, muscles, and a pencil; not even a smart pencil!
I know, nobody wants to hear this. But, I’m saying it anyway.
It’s not the tool. It’s how you use it.
Yes, very poor texts exist in abundance. They are sloppy. But, they are not necessarily AI slop.
Getting mediocre results means not partnering properly with the machine. Often, it’s a result of over reliance on automation; of trying to make the machine do too much.
The person’s job is to shape their interaction with the AI, to guide it thoughtfully, and to use it as a genuine tool for creativity amplification. Then, the machine is no longer a machine churning out bags of words; it becomes a collaborator, amplifying your voice, your vision, and your intention.
When you learn to partner with AI to create, script, or write, the game changes. There are even some, not many, AI writing tools that make this much easier than others.
I’ve witnessed this firsthand by helping people overcome their fear of using AI for content creation.
I’ve helped clients stuck in decade-long information overload blocker unlock their potential and create work more powerful and authentic than they ever imagined! After 10 years stuck they completed their book in six weeks and have gone on to be a force to be reckoned with in their field.
Another client, a minister, delivers sermons. He was nearly overwhelmed before leveraging AI and said, “My sermons gained a new voice, a voice that truly connects. Every day, thousands from around the globe gather, yearning for the Word of God. Now, with the ability to tailor messages that are transformational, motivational, or for believers at different stages, clarity and resonance (my sermons) have reached new heights. True understanding blossoms when the message speaks directly to every heart.”
Does that sound like AI Slop? Of course not; That’s powerful word craft! It’s really beautiful to behold.
AI must be used correctly as a tool, not as a crutch. And, I’ve noticed a pattern: when people improve the process, the result is not "slop." It’s something deeply thoughtful, intentional, and often transformative.
So, let’s change the conversation. Let’s stop blaming the technology and start learning about how we can use it effectively.
AI is as good as the care, strategy, and understanding we bring to it.
Stick with me. I'll show you how.
